About Seattle Seattle is a major coastal seaport and the seat of King County, in the U.S. state of Washington. A major gateway for trade with Asia, Seattle is the 8th largest port in the United States and 9th largest in North America in terms of container handling. Parking in Seattle Seattle Department of Transportation (SDOT) manages the parking system in the city. The body manages the on street parking to make sure efficiency in vehicle movement, people, goods, and create livable neighborhoods. Based on Washington State law, the City of Seattle allows on-street parking at no cost to holders of disabled parking permits (placards, license plates, and tabs).
The City of Seattle has many signs posted around the city that limit the amount of time a vehicle may park on the street (such as a 2-hour limit between 7 a.m.- 6 p.m., etc.). Regardless of whether or not there is any sign posted, the City's Traffic Code does not allow a vehicle to be parked on a city street for longer than 72 hours.
Sometimes the ordinary parking restrictions on a street may change, such as to allow street cleaning, construction activity, special events or other unusual circumstances that require that the street be cleared of parked vehicles. When this happens, official signs (easels) will be posted announcing the temporary change to parking restrictions with the dates and times when no parking is allowed.
Parking Lots Parking in the garages and lots across the city and the downtown is a viable option especially for the long term and monthly parking requirements. Best Parking helps you choose the best suitable parking facility for off street parking via an interactive map.
