About Minskoff Theatre
Minskoff Theatre Parking
The Minskoff Theatre is one of the bigger Broadway theatres with a 1,621 seating capacity. It’s located at 1515 Broadway in midtown-Manhattan, smack-dab in the middle of the New York Theatre District. The Minskoff Theatre was named after Sam Minskoff and Sons and opened on March 13, 1973 with a revival of the 1919 musical Irene.
Through the years, the Minskoff Theatre has played host to several notable musicals such as West Side Story, Sunset Boulevard, The Scarlet Pimpernel, Saturday Night Fever, The Adventures of Tom Sawyer, Dance of the Vampires, and Fiddler on the Roof. It is now playing the musical The Lion King, based on the Disney animated film of the same name.
A couple hundred craftsmen worked diligently on the Minskoff Theatre for almost 6 months to welcome The Lion King on June 13, 2006. The interiors echo a sense of grandeur and majesty that only old theatres possess, but it also reflects that contemporary flair modern theatres enjoy. The Minskoff Theatre is everything the Broadway experience is supposed to be.
The Lion King was nominated for 11 Tony awards and won 6 of them including Best Musical. It currently holds the box office record for the Minskoff Theatre. This production almost reached 2 million dollars over eight performances, for the week ending January 2, 2011. The Lion King is still running strong after more than 5,350 performances and is now the fourth longest-running show in history. As of December 2013, it has grossed $853.8 million - the highest grossing Broadway show of all time.
In the world of Broadway musicals, The Lion King certainly lives up to its name as king of the jungle; in this case, the king of Broadway. The Minskoff Theatre also makes an excellent arena for this mighty production and for all the Lion King fans in New York. However, the Theatre District is notorious for parking fees that almost seem like a king’s ransom.
It’s certainly good to be part of New York’s circle of life; but it’s not cool driving around the concrete jungle looking for parking with no affordable parking garage in sight. Enter BestParking, let our user-friendly website and mobile apps sniff out where all those hidden garages are. BestParking keeps a continually updated database that shows you right to the parking garage entrance. You’ll even get to choose from cheap specials, discounted coupons, and guaranteed rates. Understand what Hakuna Matata parking means, only with BestParking.
